A wide selection of historical and mythical figures are shown to be angry about the way history and fable have treated tham, The poems are full of interesting facts as well as providing a psychological insight into the motives and behaviour of her subjects. From a feminist perspective Mai has chosen some very feisty females to balance the conventional paternalistic history that many of us grew up with. MAi’s ghosts spring to life from the page- with them they bring humour, poignancy and certainly I felt empathy. I was angry on their behalf. The unknown soldier particularly affected me. The historical details are an added bonus. As a poet myself I thoroughly enjoyed them. I also tutor snd these are great for lessons. Get a copy before they are all spirited away off the shelves!!
